Charles County Law Enforcement Celebrates Graduation Milestone
Sheriff Troy Berry of the Charles County Sheriff’s Office proudly announced the graduation of six new officers from the Southern Maryland Criminal Justice Academy (SMCJA) Police Entrance Level Training Program. These officers, among 17 graduates, including four from Calvert County and seven from St. Mary’s County, completed the program on December 20, marking a significant milestone in their law enforcement careers.
A Testament to Dedication and Commitment
Sheriff Berry commended the dedication and commitment of the six recruits, highlighting their desire to protect and serve the community. He expressed gratitude for the sacrifices made by the officers’ families throughout their journey. The Sheriff also acknowledged the invaluable mentorship provided by the SMCJA staff and guest instructors, who played a crucial role in preparing the officers for their roles in law enforcement.
Graduation Ceremony Highlights
The graduation ceremony, led by Class Coordinator Cpl. Matthew Nauman, included a warm welcome from Bobby Jones, the director of SMCJA, emphasizing the rigorous training program that spanned over 1,000 hours. The event featured a moving performance of the National Anthem, a presentation of colors by Honor Guard teams, and inspiring remarks from various dignitaries, underscoring the significance of the occasion.
Awards and Achievements
Several graduates were recognized for their outstanding performance in different categories, including scholastic excellence, physical fitness, firearms proficiency, emergency vehicle operations, and leadership qualities. The ceremony culminated with Class Leader Officer Nicholas Morgal retiring the Class Guidon, symbolizing the end of their training journey and the beginning of their service to the community.
