A La Plata man was taken into custody following a frightening early morning incident in Lexington Park, where he allegedly wielded a firearm at multiple individuals and damaged a vehicle before fleeing the scene.
The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an armed suspect in the 45000 block of Carefree Way around 1:38 a.m. on Sunday, February 16. By the time deputies arrived at the scene, the suspect had already made his escape. Witnesses described how the man approached a residence, causing several individuals to step outside. In a terrifying turn of events, the suspect reportedly aimed a firearm at them, prompting them to seek safety indoors. Chaney now faces serious charges, including first- and second-degree assault, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony or violent crime, and malicious destruction of property valued at under $1,000.
