Maryland Wine Month is in full swing, and Maryland’s Best, the state’s marketing program dedicated to connecting consumers with fresh, local products, is celebrating with a flavorful new campaign. Throughout March, the “Sommthing Tasty” series will showcase expert sommeliers pairing Maryland-made wines with iconic local foods, giving residents a new way to experience the best flavors the state has to offer.

A Taste of Maryland: Exploring the Sommthing Tasty Series

This exciting initiative aims to highlight the unique flavors and culinary delights that Maryland has to offer, all while showcasing the skill and expertise of local sommeliers. Each week, a new video will be released featuring pairings that highlight Maryland’s diverse agricultural and culinary offerings. From classic crab cakes to Chesapeake Blue Catfish, Otterbein’s Cookies, and Goetze’s candies, these pairings will introduce viewers to the art of matching wine with well-loved regional treats. The videos will premiere every Wednesday on Maryland’s Best social media channels, offering insights into why certain wines complement specific flavors.

Maryland Department of Agriculture Secretary Kevin Atticks is eager to spotlight the state’s exceptional wines and the local ingredients that make them shine. Atticks noted that Maryland wines are required to contain at least 75 percent Maryland-grown grapes to earn the official Maryland wine label. With more than 100 wineries across the state and 96 using a majority of Maryland-grown grapes, the state’s wine industry has flourished, with 234 local farms contributing to wine production in 2024.

Exploring Maryland’s Wine Trails and Culinary Offerings

Maryland offers twelve wine trails across the state, giving residents and visitors ample opportunities to sample wines and pair them with local specialties. The Maryland Wineries Association is working with Maryland’s Best to bring attention to wineries across the state in a way that connects people to foods they already know and love.

The Sommthing Tasty videos will be available on Maryland’s Best and the Maryland Wineries Association’s Instagram and Facebook pages. Maryland wine enthusiasts or wineries interested in participating in the campaign can reach out to Maryland’s Best Director of Special Projects Kristin Hanna via email.
