Smithsonian Pandas Bao Li and Qing Bao Make Their Public Debut

Giant pandas Bao Li and Qing Bao are set to make their grand entrance at the Smithsonian’s National Zoo and Conservation Biology Institute (NZCBI) in Washington, D.C. on January 24, 2025. The highly anticipated public debut of these adorable pandas is a momentous occasion for panda lovers and conservation enthusiasts alike. The event will be followed by a vibrant “District of Panda Party” from January 25 to February 9, sponsored by The Boeing Company, FedEx, Pepco, and Events DC.

Exciting Highlights of the District of Panda Party

During the celebration, visitors can enjoy free screenings of the beloved film “Kung Fu Panda” at the Visitor Center Theater and participate in cultural activities organized by the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China. Revival of the Giant Panda Cam

In conjunction with the pandas’ debut, the Zoo’s Giant Panda Cam, sponsored by The Boeing Company, will be relaunched on January 24. The live stream, monitored by a dedicated team of volunteers, will broadcast daily from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. ET, with replays available for viewers worldwide outside of these hours. Prior to the public debut, the Zoo unveiled a digital series titled “Prepping for Pandas,” chronicling key milestones in Bao Li and Qing Bao’s journey to Washington, D.C.

Exclusive Merchandise and Panda Habitat Preview

Fans eager to commemorate the pandas’ debut can purchase limited-edition District of Panda Party merchandise online starting January 24. All proceeds will directly support the Zoo’s animal care and conservation efforts. While the David M. Rubenstein Family Giant Panda Habitat, Bird House, and Asia Trail remain closed to the public ahead of the pandas’ arrival, select groups have had the opportunity to preview the pandas to help them acclimate to the upcoming influx of visitors.
