St. Mary’s College Sailing Dominates Rose Bowl Regatta in Southern Maryland
St. Mary’s College of Maryland sailing team showcased their prowess and skill as they clinched victory at the prestigious 18-team Rose Bowl regatta, held on January 4-5 and hosted by the University of Southern California. The Seahawks asserted their dominance with a remarkable score of 31, finishing a whopping 19 points ahead of their closest competitors, Boston College (50) and Georgetown University (53), who secured second and third place, respectively.
Division A Excellence
In Division A, senior skipper Owen Hennessey from Washington, D.C., along with senior crew Brooke Bertrand from Costa Mesa, Calif., delivered a stellar performance, securing second place with 22 points. The dynamic duo trailed Georgetown by just four points while outperforming Tulane University by the same margin. Hennessey and Bertrand’s exceptional skills were evident as they clinched victory in Race 6A and secured second place in Races 1A and 4A.
Division B Triumph
Senior captains Charlie Anderson from West River, Md., and Zoe Hoctor from Annapolis, Md., showcased their dominance in Division B, claiming first place with an impressive nine-point score. The formidable pair clinched victory in three out of the six races and finished as runners-up in the remaining three (Races 3B, 4B, and 5B). Their outstanding performance, with a 14-point lead over second-place Boston College (23) and U.S. Coast Guard Academy (27), solidified their position at the top.
Looking Towards the Future
The Seahawks are gearing up for their upcoming spring season, commencing on February 22-23 at the Quad Team Race hosted by the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland, starting at 10 a.m. This victory not only marks the end of a successful fall season but also sets the stage for the Seahawks as they prepare to conquer the spring circuit.
