St. Mary’s Seahawks Make Waves with Double Victories in Southern Maryland Showdown

The St. Mary’s College of Maryland men’s and women’s swimming teams made a splash on Saturday, January 25, 2025, as they secured impressive road victories over William Peace University. The women’s team dominated with a 180-68 win, while the men’s team also emerged victorious with a 165.50-79.50 score.

**Sophomore Sensation Kelsie Miller Leads the Charge**

Sophomore standout Kelsie Miller emerged as the star of the show, leading the women’s team to victory with four event wins. Miller showcased her talent by contributing to the 200-medley relay win alongside teammates Emerson Young, Venus Kai Judge, and Addison Willey, clocking in at an impressive 1:53.57. In individual events, Miller displayed her prowess by dominating the 200-butterfly (2:10.74), the 100-freestyle (52.68), and the 200-individual medley (2:11.52).

Young also made her mark with wins in the 100-backstroke (1:02.56) and the 50-freestyle (24.63), while Ella Malzahn shone in the 200-breaststroke with a season-best time of 2:44.65 and the 100-butterfly (1:05.73). Judge also put on an impressive performance, securing first place in the 500-freestyle (5:44.73) and second in the 200-butterfly (2:31.81).

**Senior Captain Luke Schwenk Leads Men’s Team to Victory**

On the men’s side, senior captain Luke Schwenk led the charge with three individual victories, clinching first place in the 100-backstroke (53.82), the 50-freestyle (20.33), and the 100-freestyle (45.77). Sophomore Daniel Madigan also stood out with wins in the 100-breaststroke (1:01.14), the 200-breaststroke (2:15.50), and the 200-medley relay, where he teamed up with William Kendrick, Kyle Smith, and Anthony Davis for a time of 1:38.34.

First-year standout Harrison Greenwald delivered strong distance performances, claiming victory in the 1000-freestyle (10:11.19) and the 500-freestyle (4:55.41). Davis also made his mark, tying for first in the 200-freestyle (1:50.29) and securing two second-place finishes in the 50-freestyle (22.42) and the 100-freestyle (50.19).

The Seahawks are gearing up for their next challenge on February 1 at 1 p.m. when they face off against Southern Virginia University in their home pool at the Aquatics Center in St. Mary’s City, Maryland. This upcoming meet will also be a special occasion as it marks Senior Day, a time to honor the graduating athletes who have dedicated themselves to the sport.
