Vote for Your Favorite Wine Label Design on The Southern Maryland Chronicle: Three Designs, One Winner

The St. Mary’s County Arts Council (SMCAC) and the Port of Leonardtown Winery (POL) have unveiled the top three finalists in their label design competition, marking a significant milestone in celebrating the winery’s 15th anniversary. This competition not only pays homage to the winery’s rich history but also aims to raise funds for the SMCAC, showcasing the community’s support for local artists.

Community Engagement Through Art and Wine

Local artists were invited to submit their creative designs for the winery’s first-ever sparkling red wine label, with the finalists selected by a panel of winery staff and Arts Council representatives. Now, it’s the community’s turn to have their say in determining the ultimate winner. From January 17 to January 31, residents and art enthusiasts alike are encouraged to cast their votes for the design that resonates with them the most.

This unique collaboration between art and wine not only showcases the talent of local artists but also fosters a sense of community spirit as individuals come together to support a shared cause. By participating in the voting process, you not only have a say in the final design but also contribute to the flourishing arts scene in St. Mary’s County.

Impact Beyond the Label

The winning design will grace the label of a limited-run sparkling red wine, with only 65 cases set to be produced. The artist behind the winning label will not only have their work showcased on the wine bottles but will also be a special guest at the wine’s release event in May 2025. This opportunity allows the artist to engage with attendees, sign bottles, and potentially expand their exposure through merchandise featuring their artwork.

Furthermore, the Port of Leonardtown Winery has pledged to donate 10% of the proceeds from bottle sales of the sparkling red wine to the St. Mary’s County Arts Council, highlighting the partnership’s dedication to supporting the local arts community.
